Dying embers

The enemy rakes over the cold embers of a Christian’s heart, looking for something to work on. Looking for some life in the coals, that he can blame and fan into flame and use for his evil ends. The night is his choice time when he believes we are at our weakest – but the Lord Christ is ever with those who love Him. He is never weak. Yes, we do not always recognise His ways, and the hurt of that is very difficult to bear, but the Lord will teach and show, and strengthen us. He teaches our hands to war and our fingers to fight…

The enemy

I know my enemy because I fight him. Satan has had me on the ground many times, his jack-boot on my neck… It’s over… I am a puny human and mere flesh and blood, but I fight. I fight because I have learned how to through times of pain and suffering. Strength is given from the Spirit within, who has all power- limitless and certain. We do not have to concede or fail. All power has been given to us, in Heaven and Earth, and Christ calls us to “ask and it will be give to us.”

The fear is what crushes the spirit and strength ebbs away, but the battle cry of the Warrior of the Cross speaks into the heart and mind. “All power is given unto me, in heaven and on earth… I will never leave you or forsake you…” Victory is the outcome for every believer, no matter how weak we feel or how monumental the difficulties.

To be an over-comer often means to fight and persevere through the deepest of troubles, maybe for a long time. We may feel we are already finished and as time trudges by, we think we are lost and hope becomes very thin. He will never leave you. It doesn’t matter how you feel, or how far away you think you are, Faith is not feeling, but a trust in Heaven’s Lord, who will never let you go.

JESUS Christ himself has put an end to all that accuses and condemns us, and has vanquished all powers as he died on the cross. Love has conquered all and the battle is over, except for the skirmishes we experience as the enemy tries to put us down. The great accuser can never overcome. Faith overcomes all things- a faith given by the perfect Saviour, who kept Gods’ law perfectly for us.

“Every arrow of guilt which Satan might have shot at us is broken, for who can lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? Vain are the sharp swords of infernal malice, and the perpetual battles of the serpent’s seed, for in the midst of the church the lame take the prey, and the feeblest warriors are crowned.” CHS

Our precious Lord Jesus, teaches us to wield the Sword of the Spirit and use the shield of Faith, so that our skill increases and we rise, as he rose, forever.

Acclaim (prayers for strength)

Psalm 17:15 NIV
“As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.”

Lord, give me the strength to not seek acclaim, vindication or praise in this world. May I look only to you and seek the blessing on the lives of others and to build them up that they will walk with you too.
Please forgive my self-seeking and the desire to be seen or regarded.
Purge away my pride and self-righteousness for your names sake. Amen

Lord, forgive the thoughts that rehearse the ill that others have done to me. This is not the mind of Christ. To be forgiven of this destructive treadmill, I must really forgive. As I struggle with it, help me to see that this is why I am struggling to get mastery- it yet has mastery over me and will keep me down as long as I hold on to it.
Give me the strength it do something positive to give the death-wound to this monster.
Give me pity, Lord for the sinner, whatever the guise he or she might portray themselves to be. Lord, give me insight so that I in turn will not fall prey to folly. Amen

Lord, if I would have your Spirit and have victory over all ill in my life, then self must be denied. The comfortable frame of mind, the blessedly self conscious thoughts will have to go. The fight is not for good deeds, but good motivations, that run deeper than action, and are never acknowledged. To serve the Lord Jesus is difficult and involves self-denial and the closest pruning of the thought realm, that the deeds will be true and sincere.
Lord, let me not ease myself off the pathway with vain excuses. Amen.

Lord Jesus, some day soon I will see your face and all my feeble efforts will be made beautiful by your deeds for me. What I have done and not done will be seen and my reasons and intentions will come into the light of your word and glory. Lord, I ask that I will have a lasting harvest and a crop of precious souls that will be there on that last great day. Let me see the light of joy and acceptance from you and hear those words that tell me I have served you well.
Lord, may my love for you overshadow all other loves and attractions, and may that love motivate me in all these days. Amen.

Eternity for the child of God, will be a knitting together and joining up of all the threads of God’s purposes here on Earth. We will know how every event, word, feeling, thought was put together in His eternal plan, and His glory will shine out for all to see. We will understand the thrills, joys, heartaches and disappointments and as we see them dovetail together the hurt and pains will evaporate.

We will be able to interact with every Christian and understand how even our hurts and wrong motives were used by the Holy Spirit to bring God’s will to full fruition. Our sins will be finally gone, and we will strangely understand how even they were part of God’s plot to save his people, and bring in an amazing harvest.

Hurts will be healed; heartache will be outlawed; sins will remain forever unthinkable; tears will never be shed, as the love of our precious Lord Jesus melts every heart and binds up every wound. Five minutes in heaven and regret, sorrow, shame and blame will be gone. The minds of those who are redeemed will share in endless joy- no barriers, no lack of skill or ability, but effortless peace and holy pleasures that do not fade or die. Our human psyche will be renewed as it was supposed to be before it was contaminated, and there will be no expression or evidence of negativity or elevated unreal thinking.

It is hard to take these kinds of ideas in, as they are not of our world or our mind set. Yet for the Christian believer they are realities that can be tasted even now. They are the small tokens God gives us to encourage us and remind us that we are not yet home. We must not trust in them to help us or put our faith in them, but our total view is of the Lord Jesus. As we see Him in all His beauty, we will see a reflection of that glorious place. As we look to Him only, and trust his word and seek to live it out, we will see those distant shores more clearly and we will find ourselves longing for that place where He is.

The world will tell you it is fantasy- fairy tales of the mind and we are kidding ourselves. Do not be downhearted the Lord has heard this too. Besides, you will know the truth because you are walking with a real Saviour, and no one can take that away from you…..

Psalm 16:11 NIV
“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

Out of mind

2 Corinthians 5:11-15
“Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us, so that you can answer those who take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart.”

“If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”

God has made himself plain to everyone. His word is not veiled or cloaked with academic words or concepts. He makes his truth plain to anyone who reads the scriptures and believes them and embraces the one they show clearly. To know God is to understand him and how his mind works. He reveals this to all who seek him with a true heart, emptied of all self and self-seeking.

Paul speaks to God’s people, though not looking for recognition or acclaim, but that they might support him and take pride in what God is doing through him. Not that Paul is concerned about how he is coming across, but is encouraging the Christians to look at the inner workings of the heart, that only God can move. He is declaring his work and words as motivations from his Lord Christ.

Unkind and judgemental Christians are labelling Paul as a “lunatic.” Paul is happy to be thought of in that way, because what he does is for the sake of God. Paul is so in tune with God’s ways that he seems “mentally ill” to many Christians. Paul does not regret this. He will be a “sane” person if it helps them to understand. Paul has to reign in all his thought, feelings and motivations, so that he can minister to others. His inner life is full up with rejoicing, prayer and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

He is compelled by the love of Christ. As Christ died for all his people and the ungodly, all have therefore died. Those who have died with Christ, are now made eternally alive in Him.
This death means a total death to ourselves and a totally living to Christ. Seeking the daily filling of the Spirit, in order to live for God and to God.

Am I level-headed to this world, or regarded as strange, too different…? Rejoice, as you look to Jesus only and walk his narrow way- proclaiming the kingdom come… He will make himself known to you, and you will rejoice in an inner life or joy, peace, love- the Holy Spirit will be yours and you His…

Hurrying to heaven

Luke 2:13-16 NIV
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off …

Those angels proclaimed God’s message of good news, that a Saviour was now born into human society. The Holy God come down to bring God’s peace, a peace beyond our human understanding.

This peace is for those who God loves and who enjoy His favour. People who have made their peace with Him and have found forgiveness and a new standing as sons and daughters of the Most High God.

The shepherds, as soon as they heard the news, went off to find this Saviour. They believed The Lord, and went down into the town to find the treasure of a tiny baby- a King.
They hurried to the stable in excitement and eagerness that they would find their eternal inheritance- lying in the dirty hay.
Whatever their human reaction the shepherds saw beyond their physical vision, and into the courts of heaven….
“He will be our peace..”

Mary, the mother of JESUS

They talk behind their hands
Even when I am by their side
I have become an outcast and unclean
All I do and say they secretly deride.
Fear has become my housemate
Things are not going as they should
Though unmarried and pure of heart
Gone is my maidenhood.
My burden is too hard to carry
Someone should stand by my hurt
Even Joseph is worried and unbelieving
Love to hate seems to slowly convert.
I believe in my God most holy
And trusting I take a low place
What ever is happening his perfect will
Will keep me in his grace.
Last night a glimmering angel
Spoke to me about His plan
To save a sinful, fallen world
And send the perfect man.
That man is to be born of me
How can such blessing be given
To one so small and lowly
By the Son of God forgiven.
My Saviour is my father
The Son born from my womb
Eternal God visiting Earth
To save us from the tomb.
I bow my knees in wonder
Because God has chosen me
To care for Him and keep Him safe
His earthly mother to be.
Yet look not closely at my life
I point to my Son alone
My Saviour and the Holy One
Who’s cross the way has shown.
The derision I have suffered
Friends to enemies have become
Yet to know my son – my Saviour
He my everlasting ransom.

Getting power

In tough times we change. Often we look for help, but there is none. Its no ones fault, but family and friends can be far away, even if they are right beside us. The truth is, no other person can enter the inner chamber of the soul, and read it and know it accurately. Only our precious Saviour can do that, and how well he knows us.

The absence of support causes initial pain and pity as we look for and thrash about for aid. Until we come to notice that God is near. When we call to him he strengthens us for real, and gives us courage, power and resilience to stand against the tides that beat on our lives.

This is what makes us strong. Help from others, can actually make us weak, because we rest on them and not on Christ and use their strength, rather than build our own.

For many of His children, God places them in situations where they are going to sink or swim. I will sink if I rely on myself, and I will swim if I trust in him. I have watched other Christians and myself, struggle and struggle, and call to people, with no avail…

The effect is, a new person, who has determination and power to face life’s difficulties, and prevail! A person who can make decisions, organize themselves and others, and has the backbone to say what they would like or nor like. Only God can do this. If we try ourselves we may become doggedly persistent, but there will be bitterness and resentment too.

Power is not what we think. It is not being able to get what we want by persuasion or force, but a relying on God to work in us and make us the women we are not. God’s daughters are not passive and sedentary, but vibrant livers of life for his glory.

Don’t worry or fret about troubles, even they are all in the plan, and your all powerful God will build you up and make you a power house for His glory among the people who are around you.

The Liberty of Christ

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then, in the the liberty that Christ has set you free, and do not be burdened again by the yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1

This sounds an amazing state to be in and a wonderful way to live. Yet so many of us find ourselves burdened with all kind of difficulties and the pressures of life are relentless. One day passes by another and we do the same old routines again and again. Is this the liberty we are promised by Christ? What am I doing wrong? Do I start doing things less well, or not at all? I cannot answer those questions here, but many of our Christian sisters who have gone before, have been in much more stressful situations than us, and stress is not reserved for modern life.

How did those who worked in fields day after day, for no reward, just keep going? How did those who endured warfare, watching loved ones killed, surviving by the skin of their teeth, remain whole people? Those who went to lands where they were not known, and laboured of souls with very little seeming fruit, what was their motivation for endurance? Women who have suffered abuse and have experienced their person being destroyed through dreadful acts, how do they recover with dignity?

The answer is the same for us all. No matter what our physical, mental or economic state, for the Christian, we are free people…. We may be in bonds of one sort or another, but if Christ has set us free from the chains of sin that hold every human fast, we really are free….

The outer person can be in prison, but the inner soul is as free as a bird… No one can take that away from the Christian believer. Women in difficulty know this, and this is the source of the power they display as they cope with their life situations. It is the same for us. Only Christ will do…

So, if I am a free women, I must think and speak and live like the free soul that I am. It is possible to live free even in dark days. The Apostle Paul encourages us. It is deliberate- a standing firm, and not giving in to myself of anyone else. I am not meant to be burdened down with responsibilities, and there is strength and peace to cope. The feeling of being swamped can just drag us down into the depths, but He will keep us and lift us out of any boggy hole we have got into. The pain of loss and disease can almost crush us, be we are assured that his strength is made perfect in our weakness and he will bring us through, stronger and wiser.

JESUS has set you free, so that you will live a life of LIBERTY and no one can put you in chains again. Do not let them… It easy to follow the way of sin and follow the crowd, and find ourselves fitting in, but the free woman has total liberty to think and say and do the right thing. Just imagine that… the joy that we feel in our hearts and souls, is the fruit of that freedom… Let is stand and walk and talk in the perfect liberty of Gods word and the perfect example of our Lord Jesus Christ.

JESUS the cornerstone

Faith and fear blog

Peter and John walked past a lame man, as they walked through the temple. The man held out his hands for money…Peter explained he didn’t have any, but told the man, in JESUS name to get up and walk.. The man believed and DID…!

Everyone saw it and as Peter preaches about JESUS, many people of all types, believed.

Peter and John were put in prison and the next day called before the authorities… The authorities were angry because people were believing in JESUS and not following them.

They threatened Peter and John and wanted explanations. Peter said the man had been healed in JESUS name- the only one who could deliver people.

JESUS is the CORNERSTONE- the one necessary stone in the whole building of GOD’S Kingdom. He is the one who holds everything in place and holds the weight of every other stone.

He is our Saviour- though the leaders had rejected Him- they had killed him but JESUS is risen to life again.

JESUS is our trustworthy Lord and saves all who call out to Him in faith…
