“Scarcely had I passed them when I found the one my heart loves. I held him and would not let him go till I had brought him to my mother’s house, to the room of the one who conceived me.”
Song of Songs 3:4
No sooner had the Watchman pass by than she finds what she has been looking for.
The woman suddenly finds the Beloved One…
She has held on so long and now at the very last moment her dreams have come true. She has found him, the one that she loves best of all. Her persistence has paid off and now she has her prize.
She holds him and she will not let him go. She brings him to her mothers house and brings him to the room where she herself was conceived. Family continuity is really important here. Deeply warm and sexual overtones as the true love passes between the generations. Perhaps she desires that others will be conceived here too and that she will conceive in this place the fruits of her true love.
How much must she have felt after searching to find her love? The panic gives way to elation. The frantic searching gives way to joy. The loneliness gives way to possession.
She will never let him go…
The message she sends in taking him to her mother’s house is unmistakable.
“This is forever and this is for me. I want you and no one else, and you are already the father of my children. We will make love, have love and be love forever.”
This is powerful text and not to be trivialised. Playing with emotions is a fools game. when you find your love, keep them close and make sure you both want the same things. Walking together is absolutely key. Having your own lives is not an option. You will fall away from each other and you will fall away from love and the love of God.
This is no one-sided male-orientated affair. This is a woman who knows what she wants and she will persist with it till she gets exactly what she wants and the man that she wants in her life and in her home and in her bed.
Even if she cannot find him she will persist anywhere and everywhere until she gets what she wants. This woman is a true woman because this woman has deep desires and she knows what she wants. She knows her own mind and what she wants from life, and she will get it and she will move heaven and earth to get what she wants. No family situation will brain-wash her into acquiescence. No education will make her change her mind. Her mind she has made it up and she will carry out what she believes to be the right thing.
Her heart also is secure in what she feels and what she believes to be emotionally true. She will search and fight for love with every part of her being. She will hold Love utterly fast. Her faith is secure and her hope is certain.
This is the mindset of the Christian and Christ. We hold Him fast in the same way. No lovers tryst, but the deepest of spiritual desires to honour and love Him, who has loved us and died so that we can have His honour too. We hold Him fast, as He holds us fast. We clasp His blessed hands and feet and kiss them with kisses of sweet love. One day we will do it for real, since or precious Lord forever wears our outer garb of human flesh, and will sanctify us also, even as He is sanctified.
“Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober-minded. Set your hope fully on the grace to be given you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not conform to the passions of your former ignorance. But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:13-16 NIV
All God’s people will be holy because He will make them holy. We walk our lives in holy fear, with reverence to our God, and that familiar passion for our Saviour that leads us into all service and truth. He is our motivation and He is our passion. We must never forget Him, leave Him out of our plans, or ignore His Word to us.
We bring Him into the sanctuary of our lives and share all we are with Him, who our soul loves. We are open and honest with Him, and obey what He tells us to do. We never let our fear and doubts get the better of us, and walk steadily and uprightly with our Perfect Man, until the great day of total redemption and we are finally the royal bride of Ophir.
Read the whole Psalm..
“Listen, O daughter! Consider and incline your ear: forget your people and your father’s house, and the king will desire your beauty; bow to him, for he is your lord. The Daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; men of wealth will seek your favor. All glorious is the princess in her chamber; her gown is embroidered with gold. In colourful garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions are brought before you. They are led in with joy and gladness; they enter the palace of the king. Your sons will succeed your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land. I will commemorate your name through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you forever and ever.”
Psalm 45:10-17 NIV
This is the destiny of all those who love the Lord Jesus Christ. Who would pass up anything He bestows, and who would take up anything He hates. We must be careful and make straight paths for our feet. We remember who we are in Christ and walk worthily, bringing Him into our dwelling of this world, and including Him in every part of our lives. This is a true marriage and a true love.
