Awesome

“The Lord thunders his voice before his army; for his forces are very great; for he is strong who obeys his command; for the day of the Lord is great and very awesome, and who can endure it?”

The language here does not just apply to this present judgment that the people of God are going through in the days of Joel, but it synonymous with the last great Day of the Lord. The enemies of the Lord will surely gather against Him, but will not stand. The power of the Lord is demonstrated in the thundering of His voice as He announces the presence of His great army, the redeemed people of the Lord. The Word of the Lord stands supreme over everything and every scenario. He had the first word in the building of the earth and He will have the last word in the destruction of His handiwork.

Those who obey the Lord are strong, because they obey the Word of the Lord which does not fail. This Day of reckoning is coming soon and no one who stands against the Lord shall in any way prevail. The rhetorical question adds power to the statements. “Who shall endure it?” The answer is certain and obvious, for we are talking about the mighty God, the maker of heavens and earth, and the sovereign God over everything and every being that exists. No one can endure who challenges Him and His eternal majesty.

The Scripture stands supreme over the created order, the passage of time and the Iife of every human that has ever existed. No one can stand against Him, and His word will finally and totally prevail. All who refuse Him will be judged and all who love Him will be exalted. Why wait for the thundering of His voice, for He yet calls out to us in love.

“Come to me, all you who labour and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28
