Simone de Beauvoir on Existentialism & God

This is a bit sad and jumblemumbled. She says she has no interest in, or anything to say about the metaphysical, and yet says there is no God. The experiences of her life led her to disbelieve in God, but she has no actual arguments or proof. “I stopped believing with out any positive reason.” This is curious for someone who purports to takes philosophy seriously.

These arguments that Simone takes, are from a selection of existential writers (quite a lot of name-dropping) who have no reason or concrete foundation to rest upon. She sees people who believe in God, as only interested in absurdity, the the “Christians” she talks with, exhibit no saving faith in a living and loving God. Her view of God is capricious and she interprets His character like her own human character, or other believers/non believers she has known. The statement are in themselves absurd.

This interview shows someone who walks constantly in the light of her own eyes, and who’s soul is dead to God. If the Scripture is not known or revealed to us, then this mindset will be our “light.” Simone is regarded as “bright” but not by God. Those who do not have faith are judged as “foolish.” Foolish because we cannot contemplate a person outside ourselves, and therefore selfish and lacking in spiritual discernment..”

Romans 1:18-22

“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools…”

How searching is the Word of the living God….
