Preserving promises

“Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.”

Psalm 119:49-50

We find our hope in the Word of God. We can rely on its precepts, for they are true. When we find ourselves struggling, we can turn to the Scripture and find reassurance and strength. Gods word is true so we can rely on it. When we are suffering, especially with fear, doubt and anxiety, we remember the promises of God, and His Word will sustain us.

When I suffer there is comfort in these words. We trust God for our lives and our eternity. Those who trust in Him will never be left alone, no matter how lonely we might feel. He promises to never leave us and to give us the strength we need for the day.

God gives us hope, because He is able to sustain us in all circumstances, and His love does not fail, though our love often does. We remember the demonstration of love on the cross, and our Saviour who gave His life, so that we might live. We look to that cross. We look to Him and trust Him for all that has gone by and all that lies ahead. His promise preserves our lives and makes a small hope into a larger hope, which never fails, because it is grounded in the Word of God.
