Psalm 103:1-5 NIV
“Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
Praise to the Lord is the antidote to distress of soul. In our most secret inner sanctum, the Lord is praised and His holy name is sacred in all the thoughts of the Christian.
There is a list of reasons to praise, which we must rehearse and meditate on, on a daily basis. The forgiveness of sins is key. The believer rejoices that the power of sin has been broken and there is no more condemnation in the eyes of the loving Father in heaven.
The Christian is free from the sentence of the law, that was paid by Christ and enjoys the freedom of belonging to the family of God. Our diseases are ordered by the Lord. He decides our sacrifice of suffering and shields us from many hurts we may never know. God keeps us in life, that we might know what it means to walk with God in a sinful world.
As previous slaves of sin, The Lord Jesus has set us free, redeeming us from the slavery of this present world, and making us inhabitants of His kingdom. We are kings and queens of heaven, crowned by the beauty of His love and given new hearts of love towards other people.
The redeemed heart desires the things of the eternal kingdom and is only satisfied with them. The effect of this is vigour and strength from the Holy Spirit, who keeps the heart and motivates and service for God, for His glory. So- we are daily renewed and made powerful in that strength not our own. Our spirit’s soar like the magnificent eagle as we draw near to Him who loves us..
