The Wall of fire

The Wall of Fire…

Zechariah 2:4-5,8,10,13 NIV

“Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it. And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will be its glory within.’

For this is what the Lord Almighty says: “After the Glorious One has sent me against the nations that have plundered you—for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye—

“Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you,” declares the Lord.

Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling. ”

The God of the Universe, time and eternity is not inactive or stationary. The Lord is involved with humankind and is concerned that His holy will is carried out. It cannot be otherwise. God loves His people and will surely save them. No one will be finally lost from His family. His holy heart burns with flame for His redeemed people. None can snatch them from His hand.

God protects the citadels of His glorious city of people – Jerusalem the golden. All who live within her walls are safe. The King Himself surrounds the city with a wall of fire. No one would dare to breach that wall. The gates of hell cannot prevail against it. In its embrace are a great company of Believers with all their lives and possession. They are kept by the power of their God and King. The King is the glory of that place and is worshipped by all who love and have proved His protection.

That great company are the prize possession of the King and He regards them as “the apple of His eye.” God, the “Glorious One” has send His Deliverer to rescue His people from the clutches of those who oppress them. He instructs His people to “shout and be glad.” We are to rejoice even in the face of suffering and hardship, because there is a Saviour who has come and lived among us. We are not to fret or worry about anything. God tells us to be still before Him and prove His faithfulness. He will keep His promise and rise up against our foes.

This He has done, in Christ. Jesus is the Deliverer. He is the Holy One, who has saved His people. Not one of them will be lost, or destroyed by the enemy. He brings many daughters and sons to glory. The glory of the Almighty has come in the person of Jesus. That wall of fire keeps all those who love His coming, and when He returns again in His Father’s glory.

We should never be afraid. As we seek holiness, so we will be transformed, becoming like Christ, day after day. Until one day when we shall finally shed the shackles of sin and enter into the heritage of God’s people in that great “Jerusalem.” Let us shout and be glad as we rejoice in anticipation of that great day. Let us rest secure that the protection of fire will never be breached.
