“You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and no sin is in him.”

We are all law breakers and therefore lawless in nature and practice. We desperately need a Saviour whether we know it or not. The law of God has been broken by us and therefore we owe recompense to Him for our lawbreaking. All sin must be paid for because God is holy and can never pass over sin in the slightest degree. He cannot forget if or let it pass over, for He is just and perfect. Our sinfulness precludes our fully understanding the majesty of the law and holiness of God and we excuse ourselves, blame God and fail to grasp the essence of justice.

“For we have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteousness is like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.”

Isaiah 64:6

The law of God requires a perfect and holy sacrifice to be a propitiation for the sin of the evil-doer. In the ancient times a perfect lamb had to give its life as a sin-offering for the sin of the people. This was a picture of the perfect Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, who was coming to be the once-for-all sacrifice for sin.

“Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God…”

1 Peter 3:18

This was the requirement for the holy law, that a holy sacrifice be made on behalf of sinners. The only one who could do this was the very Son of God, for only He is found righteous and worthy to be the Saviour of the world. Only the perfect Saviour could fulfil the righteous requirements of the wrath of God against sin and stand in the breach between God and humans. No one else is worthy or qualified to do such a task. This is the reason Jesus came into the world.

“But now once at the end of the ages, he has been revealed to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.”

Hebrews 9:26

The fact that Jesus was and is sinless made Him the worthy one to bear away the sin that we have committed. He is the perfect God and lived a perfect life in our sinful environment so that we could gain His righteousness instead of our sin. This was why He came and the glory of the incarnation cannot be overstated. The reason for the appearing of Christ was for us that He might rescue us from our sin and set us free, bringing us at the last, to glory.

“…we see him who has been made a little lower than the angels, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for everyone. For it became him, for whom are all things and through whom are all things, in bringing many children to glory, to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings.”

Hebrews 2:9-10

Jesus the Lord is the perfect one and remains the perfect one, so we can rely on Him and put all our hopes in Him. Beloved, let us love Him as we should.
