Walk by the Spirit

img_3851

Galatians 5:16-18 NIV
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the
Spirit, you are not under the law.”

Christians are instructed to “walk by the Spirit” we are to follow closely to Christ and listen and obey the voice of the Holy Spirit as He speaks to us. His voice us recognised by us as we know the mind and heart of God as we study and meditate on His Word. The more we do this and the longer we are on the road, the closer we follow; the more we recognise Him; the more ready we are to believe and obey; and the more like Him we become.

So, the life of the Spirit in us increases and the life of our fleshly desires decreases. The flesh wants the opposite to what God’s Spirit wants, and as we seek God, there are huge battles in our souls and minds. My natural self craves all for itself, but the work of the Spirit is to subdue self and live life in obedience to God.

Conversely, if we subjugate self and live for God in the power of the Spirit, we are actually made free from law, because we are walking with Christ in the power of the Spirit and in obedience to the Father. The desires of the natural self fade away and the desires of the Spirit grow. The conflict within is fought with increasing strength and so faith, love, joy and peace also take hold, and the fruit of the Spirit’s work becomes the daily life and service of those who belong to Him.

Submit

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” James 4

Some saw it coming. Most didn’t. We comfort ourselves that God is in control and the West is safe and protected against all enemies. We are now seeing that the enemy is within. A godless and autocratic leader has been chosen by the people to lead the most powerful and influential country on earth. He has raised himself above God and all that is decent and holy, and we have gone along with it. Our sensibilities have been clouded over and we have become unable to judge wisely.

The enemy is within our societies, but only because he is within our minds and hearts as well. We do not submit to God, we do not grieve over our sin or purify ourselves from it. We are still relaxing and going out to lunch. We are still concentrating on this world’s goods and building our own edifices to supply our needs. We have turned to other comforts for ourselves, and not Christ. This piece of writing from God is very blunt. He does not mince words or fog the issue so that we can somehow escape the application to ourselves.

No one knows what will now happen in Western civilisation, and suddenly, it has become very dark. The clouds are gathering and as God’s people we should be waiting- waiting to see what He will do…. maybe this is the passageway this world will go through and into the full light of the kingdom of God. Maybe the complete deliverance from sin and its effects will soon be a reality…

What can I do?
Seek the Lord, repent, and work as His servant in every opportunity He sends us. Keep going no matter what.
God will lift you and strengthen you, even as you submit to Him. He is not willing that any should perish…
God is working out His purposes for those who love Him, and is still willing to forgive and change anyone who comes humbly to Him. This is our only hope, but what a wonderful hope that is certain and will bring us gloriously though all the griefs into our eternal inheritance. He will lift you up…..

Tired…

img_3524

Are you getting tired as the days go by. The duty of it all is getting you down and things are becoming routine and predictable. The same old hum-drum as you do the daily round of reading the scriptures and praying to the Father. You have read these words so many times before, and it is just so tiresome reading the same old things. Prayer is difficult, as its hard to remember the people and things you should be praying for. You are feeling the attraction of other pursuits- novels, social media, television- they are so interesting and deal with the issues of the day…

Maybe you have lost sight of the beauty of your Lord. You have forgotten or stopped dwelling on His mercy to you. Your earthly, human, tendencies have become prominent and the spiritual seems less attractive. If prayer is difficult, we forget to push through the lethargy barrier and labour on until the Spirit of God over rules the weakness of the psyche.

Do not linger too long in this wilderness of sin. Take your sins and burdens to the Lord and He will sustain you. He will never let the righteous be shaken and the promise He made to you when you first come to Him is forever true. Shake off the lazy, complacent thoughts and re-align yourself to Him again. Ask the Spirit to give you power to fight and the desire to overcome. Really this is a battle for motivation. Motivation to put down the grasping of my selfish self, and to earnestly seek spiritual motivation to stay close to Christ.

You cannot do this alone. When we wander, the enemy is right there on our shoulder and he will do whatever he can to keep you on the back foot. He will tempt, annoy, accuse and blame you in all aspects of your life. The Christian needs Christ every step of the way and we can never lay off following Him. The battle is fierce and we dare not lay off the fight, as we fight that spiritual war against evil powers in our world. Our remit is to rescue and keep ourselves in the way of Christ.

Without the Word the Christian is lost. There is no substitute. If we leave off reading and meditating and allowing the Holy Spirit to infiltrate our being, we are ultimately weak. Without prayer, we have no oxygen on which to live for God. We will flounder and fail and become so miserable as we try to live without the Holy Spirit. As a Christian I will not lose the Spirit, but my thoughts and words and lazy deeds, will grieve Him into silence. To grieve that blessed one, is folly.

Do not let fear and disillusionment drag you down into the pit of darkness, but reach out to Him, who is always near, and He will help you and bring you close to His person.

If you are a Christian, that is your most precious place. That is where we are happy and motivated and empowered to do His will for His glory’s sake…

Heaven

img_3832

Heaven is a real place.

It is the place where God’s presence and being dwell.

It is outside present time and space, in another multidimensional state of reality.

If you go there, you are changed in every way into a glorious, immortal being, pure and holy.

To get there, you must be holy.

God must give us this holiness so that we can live there in perfect harmony and love for Him.

It is a place of no sorrow, death or crying. All pain and suffering have been cast out.

There are such glories there, that we cannot imagine.

The people of God walk in total joy, praise and gladness with God.

They will reign with Him forever.

The Saviour, Jesus Christ, is the light of that place and He lives forever with His people.

The river of life ever flows, as death and hell are forever defeated.

This is the home of all who repent and put their trust in Jesus.

His name is exalted above every other name, and ever knee will bow to Him.

Hell

img_3739

Hell is a real place.

If you go there you can never return.

It is a place of payment for sins committed by a person.

Everyone who is there deserves to be there.

It is a place of justice and punishment for those who refused to repent.

It is forever. There is no end to the place or the time. It is an eternal place of torment.

It is a lonely place. There are no friends in hell. Love is never known or felt and the longing for peace is never satisfied.

You are alone. No one cares about you.

Everything is pain- physical, emotional, spiritual pain. This is the price of sin. This is the second death which lasts forever.

All is dark, a searing heat that consumes all that is worthy or good. The light never shines and all hope is gone.

Hell is the unending agony of a condemning conscience.

Luke 13:24-30 NIV
“Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’“But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’  “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God. Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last.”

Flee from the wrath to come….!

The last sentence

img_3775

Some day- on the last day, we will all stand before Him to be judged for the deeds we have done and the words we have said. There will be no mistakes, no miscarriage of justice, no appeal board. As we appear before Him, we will instantly recognise who He is. We will have seen His likeness in the created earth, and in the lives of some humans we have known.

How will you feel when you see Him?

There are two reactions. Sheer terror that you ignored His voice and did your own thing. There is only a negative outcome for this person. There are no second chances, or deviation from the application of the Holy law. Justice will prevail and the sentence eternal.

The other reaction. Sheer delight as you finally see the one you love above all others. The Saviour and Lord you have walked the sinful world with, learning His ways and obeying His will. The outcome is only glory. Amazing joys that we could not even imagine here and now. Your sentence will have been paid on your behalf by another.

Why loose everything for foolish possessions? Why trade a crown for a bag of dirt?
Why exchange glory for infinite pain?

To reject such a Father is sheer folly. To turn down His free offer of complete forgiveness is utter stupidity, and you will be rejected, and rightly judged, forever.
If we live in folly, we will perish in folly.
Why not loose yourself to find true joy and life and an everlasting reward? He holds it out to you right now. Take it and take Him as your Saviour and Lord and find a world of such joy and peace, you will wonder why you waited so long.

Step outside

img_3821

If I step up and step out with God, will I be satisfied with Him and His purposes and not my own ideas about how it should be? How will other people react?

We live in hesitant and distracting times. God’s people have lost their sense of urgency and the fact that there is a world of lost people facing an eternity without God. We need money, backing, counselling, an organisation to maintain the activity, and give us clout…. Why?

Everyone lives in a neighbourhood, and has some sort of relationships with the people in it- our street, block of flats, housing complex, etc. How should Christians react?
We go to work, study, take part in activities, and there are people there too… do we have feeling for those around us in every place?

These questions are not the heart of the matter. What we think and feel are changeable and based on our human characters, and therefore are not reliable. The real question is where we stand in the presence of God. Do we really love Him with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and therefore love my neighbour as I love myself? Is my time spent with God filled with love and delight, our just duty? Is His holy presence a place where we go to in trouble and retreat to in weariness? Is His presence our joy?

Are our thoughts of Him a glorious exercise in holy strength and stamina? To be near Him is our number one delight and life is empty without the presence of His Spirit as we walk through this world.

If we are totally His, then this world will fade and die to us, and we will see all the faults, sins and failures with sorrow. The motivation for what we do will change- everything will be service for God, no matter what we are involved in.

My heart? That too will appear as a wandering thing, bent on its own pleasures and intentions. Only the intervention of divine love and forgiveness can rescue it from self- seeking.

All things will become dim, as we lift our eyes to the one who gives us life and Jesus only will become our motivation for every step of the way. Only then will we see this world with fresh eyes and our hearts will truly belong to Him.

Our view becomes outward looking and we start to see situations as God sees them. We start to see the possibilities as never before and our faith grows. It becomes not about me, but centred on Jesus and the work of the Holy Spirit and the intentions of the perfect Father. We become humble servants ready to hear and obey.

Stepping up and launching our into the deep waters is our eternal purpose and joy of all joys…
