High and lifted up

We see many pictures in the Scripture showing our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, as the exalted One. He alone is worthy of our praises and deserves all glory. Glory we receive is from Him, bestowed in mercy and grace. These specific visions are particularly wonderful. This is a sketchy outline of some of them, with some personal thoughts. We lift high our Lord Jesus, since he alone deserves all our praise.

Vision 1

“In the year that king Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up; and his train filled the temple.”

Isaiah 6:1

This vision of the Lord Jesus is very, very striking. He is high and lifted up and fills the area of the whole temple. The Lamb that was since slain, is now the exalted one, and fills heaven in every way. He is heavens king and the creator of the ends of the earth. The king Uzziah, who was a good king and loved God, had just died, but Isaiah receives a vision that blesses him. He sees the Lord. He sees who the Lord is in the vision and understands that no matter what happens, God is in control.

“One called to another, and said, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of Armies! The whole earth is full of his glory!” The foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. Then I said, “Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Armies!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar. He touched my mouth with it, and said, “Behold, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin forgiven.”

Isaiah 6:3-7

Isaiah and his words are purified by God from the altar of God. Isaiah is made aware of his sinfulness, and this is a common outcome from visions. When we see the glory of God, and the holiness that attend Him, we can overcome with the sense of our sinfulness and unworthiness. No one can stand before the Holy God… God lifts Isaiah up and gives him a message. Once purified, Isaiah is able to speak the words of God to others. this is always the way. The vessel must be purified before the message is given and given out. Isaiah as so afraid, yet glad his sin was forgiven. This is what gives us confidence before God.

Vision 2

“God, having in the past spoken to the fathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, has at the end of these days spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds. His Son is the radiance of his glory, the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself made purification for our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; having become so much better than the angels, as he has inherited a more excellent name than they have.”

Hebrews 1:1-4

This vision exalts Christ as the glory of the Father in heaven, and the one who uphold everything simply by the power of His word. He is the righteous One and the only Saviour of the world. Only He can forgive us, for He alone is the atonement for our sins. Jesus radiates the glory of the Father, in His humility and grace. We can see it as we read the Scripture, especially the eye-witness accounts of Jesus in the New Testament. The person of Jesus is the exact image of the substance of God. When we see Jesus, we see God. Jesus sits at the right hand of God, which is His right and designated position. He is the most excellent One, the one far above all angels and people, the ruler for he Universe, heaven and eternity. His name is peerless… Jesus, Christ, Son of God, Lord and Saviour.

Vision 3

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him. Without him was not anything made that has been made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it.”

John 1:1-5

These most precious of words and written by God, through the disciple John, show a different perspective on the vision of Jesus. He is the eternal Word. He speaks and it happens. He speaks worlds into being and souls into everlasting life. Jesus the Christ is God, is with God and alway has been God. He was there at the beginning of time and made all things that exist in our world and beyond. He speaks and it comes into being, we come into being. His Word is true because He is truth.

He is the Creator, because he made it all. He is God, because He has always been and always will be. He is our light, our only light in a dark world. John could see this and love Jesus with everything he had. He was given this vision, as a gift to share with us.

Vision 4

“Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves. Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength. Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.”

Daniel 10:5-9

This vision is about service and glory. It is given as encouragement to Daniel who is completely overcome by his Lord and God. The vision of the Man shows Him robed in white for purity and the gold of Lordship. He is the Lord of all things, Jesus Christ the righteous One. His eyes see purity and are flames of fire. The person of the Spirit rages within and sees all things as they really are. His body is sea and sky coloured. All things were made by Christ and belong to Him. He is far above all earthly considerations and far higher than sky or deeper than sea. Beryl is a precious stone and denotes the preciousness of Christ to the believer.

His voice is huge and sound like many voices, many voices as the Scripture is written in many voices. The voices cause Daniel to fall into a deep sleep with his face to the ground. Daniel is contrite and overcome by the presence and power of the Lord Christ. The Man reaches down and touches Daniel and tells him he is greatly Beloved. The Man has been “sent to you” because Daniel has longed for God right from the start. Daniel has humbled himself, and has set his heart to understand the things of God, and so now God has come to him.

“Then there touched me again one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me. He said, “Greatly beloved man, don’t be afraid: peace be to you, be strong, yes, be strong.” When he spoke to me, I was strengthened, and said, “Let my lord speak; for you have strengthened me.”

Daniel 10:18-19

Daniel cannot speak or breathe unless he is given the strength to do so by his Lord. Daniel must be strong to bear the vision and the message that is being given. Daniel is encouraged and strengthened in his weak human state, he is made strong in the Lord his God. He is strengthened by the Lord an enabled to then speak. We have this vision by the mercy of God and the contrition of Daniel. This is God’s way of doing things.

Vision 5

“I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. Having turned, I saw seven golden lampstands. And among the lampstands was one like a son of man, clothed with a robe reaching down to his feet, and with a golden sash around his chest. His head and his hair were white as white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire. His feet were like burnished brass, as if it had been refined in a furnace. His voice was like the voice of many waters. He had seven stars in his right hand. Out of his mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining at its brightest.”

Revelation 1:12-16

When I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead man. He laid his right hand on me, saying, “Don’t be afraid. I am the first and the last, and the Living one. I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. I have the keys of Death and of Hades.”

Revelation 1:17-18

This vision of Christ in Revelation, is given to John the disciple. It is very exalted and a striking picture of the Lord Jesus, as He stands over His church and judges their work and devotion to Him. The robe and the sash are majestic, and single Him out for glory. Christ’s love for His people is denoted by the belt around His breast, the place of comfort and blessing, that guards the loving heart, that would break out of its bonds of the body.

He radiates glory, through white head and hair, and eyes that see all things, like flames of fire. His Holy Spirit searches out everything, even the hearts of people, to know their intentions and attitudes. This we see as Jesus judges the churches. His feet are pure, as all His ways are pure and as He lived in perfect righteousness on a sinful earth. The Word of God, in the form of a sharp sword, comes from His mouth. He holds the keys of death and hell. He is the all-powerful One and rules all.

These visions are all about Jesus. He is the only one worth talking about. We look to Him and speak of Him when we are able. To talk about ourselves or some “worthy” person in fine, but when we talk about Christ, His name is exalted, as it is in heaven.

“Jesus the name high over all, in hell or earth or sky. Angels and men before it fall and devils fear and fly. Jesus name to sinners dear, the name to sinners given. It scatters all their guilty fear, it turns their hell to heaven, it turns their hell to heaven. (Charles Wesley 1707)

Stars

“And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.”

Daniel 12:3 KJV

These are the soul winners, the people who burn to see others saved from the wrath of God. These are those who have given up everything for the sake of Christ and the message He has give us regarding the salvation of the souls of human beings, that never die. We are not animals, but eternal beings, who had a start, but not an end. We live forever with the Lord, or without Him. The latter is unthinkable. We must make sure we are in the eternal kingdom, and then make sure those around us are too.

God says those who burn for Him in this life, will shine forever as stars in the sky. There seems to be levels of bliss in heaven and rewards for the hose who are faithful, especially in spreading the word, the good news of the gospel. To be a soul winner is a lifestyle choice. It takes many and varied forms, and is really just the Christian living life and obeying the promptings of the Holy Spirit in speaking about God.

What do we say and do? It’s not a code we have to break, but the simple sincerity of speaking of the Lord Jesus whenever we can. We need judgment and wisdom to know what to say, how to say it and when to say it. This is learned through experience and practice, just like we learn anything else. God will help us to know what to say at the right time.

It is difficult because there is reproach with the gospel. We must speak about human sinfulness and failure, and no one wants to heat about that. We cannot be saved from our lost state, without the realisation that we have sin and we are sinful and therefore need a Saviour. This involves heart searching and heart ache, and no one wants that either! We must love righteousness and hate evil, and our natural inclinations are not towards godliness. Seeking the Lord with all our hearts, in loves the working of the Holt Spirit in or lives, and the perseverance to go on looking for that personal relationship, until we find God.

The good news is that we can be forgiven. Every rotten thing can be forgotten about and put away for us, the past and the future. We do have a saviour, who has died to put away our sin and the indwelling sinful nature that bothers us so much. We will find our way to the cross of Christ, and we will find that relationship with Jesus, when we come in complete surrender to Him. Faith is given to us, so we can believe and find that forgiveness and the eternal life promised to all who believe.

This is the message, and it is not popular. But it brings life and hope to the unbeliever. To be the message-bearer is a privilege, but not for the faint hearted. Winning souls over to Christ is a spiritual work and therefore targeted by the enemy, Satan, as something to be stopped. The soul winner needs to stay close to their Lord, and have the closest of fellowship with Him. We need the protection of the whole armour of God, which we can red about in Ephesians chapter 6.

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”

Ephesians 6:11-13 NIV

To keep going and succeed, we must have the end in view. Heaven is our home, not here and now. Glory is our destiny, not what may be meted out in this world, indeed, we should expect nothing here or now. This is hard for us, because we are earth- bound creatures, and not naturally spiritual. If we know God, then we have the powerful help of the Holy Spirit to strengthen and help us always. We stay close to Jesus, our Saviour and Lord, and we petition the Father for His grace. This is true star-making stuff!

“Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Matthew 5:10-12

We take confidence and encouragement from the Scripture and follow our Lord Jesus and walk as he walked, in the will of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. We will reach our heavenly destination with honour and blessing and eternal glory.

Hate you because…

“… You will bear testimony to me. But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. Everyone will hate you because of me. But not a hair of your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life.”

Luke 21:13-19

It’s a scary prospect when you think of a time when people will hate you because you love Jesus, and follow Him. It is very scary to think that family and friends could turn on you and persecute you, even to death, because you take a stand for Him. The Scriptures say it will happen- and it does happen in some parts of the world already. Probably has always happened somewhere…

If we give testimony, people may not like it. It offends people when someone suggests they might not be in the right about something. It causes them to be resentful, which can grow into hatred. We are not to stress about what to say, but trust God. We must practice this in daily life and have our roots firmly embedded in the rock, which is Jesus Christ. He is trustworthy and true and we can totally depend on Him to deliver us from all evil.

The kingdom is His, and the power and the glory, forever. Whatever we go through, it is worth it, just to know Him. Our hearts are set on Him and we love out Saviour and friend at all times. Jesus is our brother, born out of adversity, and He will keep us safe and give us the necessary power to keep believing and walking with Him.

We will never be left speechless or defenceless, as the wisdom of God is greater than human wisdom. Human wisdom is really just folly and not at all wise. We pray for the godly wisdom, which is peaceable and kind. We abound in love of the truth and love for other people, especially those who truly believe and follow Christ too.

We may seem to perish in this life, but in the life to come, we will gain back our bodies, redeemed and immortalised, made new and glorified, like Christ’s body. We will not loose a single part of ourselves, but will be fully ourselves and full of eternal life, in the Spirit of God…

Even if everyone does hate you, you can stand firm in the faith you have received, it is God’s gift to you. Be bold and strong, for God is with you…

Jewels

“Receive my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. For wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire compares with her.”

proverbs 8:10-11 BSB

The very words of God are veritable jewels, nuggets of gold, silver and precious stone that the wise embrace and love. We roll them about under our tongues and savour every bit of their wealth and power. This is the prerogative of the Christian who alone can appreciate the value of these precious things. The scripture if full of wisdom and will instruct every soul that reads, meditates and understands. Nothing is worth anything except this truth… nothing compares to the jewel of wisdom.. get it, at all costs…

“They shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels….”

Malachi 3:17

God is gathering His jewels from every corner of the world. When they are all gathered into the store house of heavens vault, the end will come and God will give to the Lord Christ His everlasting inheritance of His blood-bought saints. We are His. We belong. Jewels of grace. Precious Ones that are forever glorified….

“…the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.”

Matthew 13:45-46 KJV

The jewel of the kingdom of God is at its centre and sun, the Lord Jeus Christ. We give up all that holds us back in order to possess Him, who our soul loves. We give up everything for the surpassing greatness of knowing our precious Lord Jesus. No one is like Him, or compares to Him. He is the Pearl of Great Price, and is dark and beautiful, rare, expensive and deeply gracious. To be a jewel in His kingdom of jewels, we must find Him, the greatest jewel of all, and hold Him fast to our heart.

The inheritance of the saints

“The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended. Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.”

Isaiah 60:19-21

This Incredible chapter is worth spending time reading carefully and thoughtfully. It tells us what to expect as God’s redeemed people and where we stand compared to the rest of the world. We have a glorious inheritance that cannot be spoiled and will never fade away. God is in charge and He will bring His people into their inheritance. We cannot bring ourselves, because we are weak believers, and totally dependant on Christ for every blessing we receive.

There will be no need of sun or moon, nor light source or reflection of it, but only the radiance of Christ. There will be no more day, for we shall dwell in perfect, heavenly, constant day, with Christ as the centre and sun. The people of God will rule in righteousness and equity for ever, with all their tears and sorrows wiped away.

This is our inheritance, kept for us in the heavens. We will surely enter in when the time is right, for it is all prepared for us.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

1 Peter 1:3-5 KJV

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

John 14:1-3 BSB

It will be all ready when the time is ready for us to go. God will call His people away, either in death (not now an enemy, but ushering us into the presence of our true love) or when Christ returns to put an end to all the troubles and sin we have generated. There is so much to look forward to, and we see just enough to keep us focused and keep us going. It is revealed to us what we need to know, and God will reveal the rest to us in the right moment.

“it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart has imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed it to us by the Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God..”

1 Corinthians 2:9-10 KJV

We look to the Son and trust in what He has done for us, that is all we do. Heaven is the ultimate gift of sacrifice and we will rejoice in it, even now. God’s love is poured out on the ungodly, that we should be rescued from this present evil age, and brought into the kingdom of His Son.

“Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”

Galatians 1:3-4 BSB

Open wide you hearts

Open wide your hearts

“as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.”

2 Corinthians 6:4-10 NIV

What a life! What a way to live. The Apostle to the Gentiles, was up for anything for the sake of his Lord and Master. He has suffered all these indignities for the sake of his Lord Jesus Christ and the gospel. These sufferings and hardships have built his character and made him patient and kind and Christ-like. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 4:16 that’s should imitate him. He must have been so confident in Christ to say such a thing.

What have you experienced in your life for the sake of God? Not the outworking of the outcomes of our own sinfulness, but difficulties undeserved and unasked for. We should have comfort from what we have experienced and see the work of the master-builder in our lives. He is building a monument of His grace that others will see and praise Him and want to follow too. We are to be abiding witnesses to the saving power of God and the constant reminder to those around us who stumble and fall, that there is a God who saves.

It is hard not to hit back. We should turn the other cheek and not retaliate or cause a fight unnecessarily. We stand for Christ with resolution and fortitude. We speak against injustice and the horror of people’s inhumanity to other people. We should do something about it too. Faith without action is no faith at all.

As a Christian I must be involved and not standing on the side-lines, observing what is happening. I am constrained to take part in life and mix and draw close to other people. People need Christians in their lives, but am I strong enough to handle it? Maybe we are too weak and puerile to stand the rigours of life in this world… too many hunker down in a safe refuge of a church and have no spiritual vigour or stamina to stand up in the world.

Am I an obvious witness to the saving power of God, or just a “nice” person? Do people wonder at how I carry on and realise it is nothing to do with me..! To know His power in our lives is liberating and totally transformational. We really can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; that by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren , I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 3:10-14 KJV

How far will you let the Lord Jesus into your life? His hand is on the latch. Will you open it, or be too scared of loosing everything. You will loose it all and gain all. You will loose your sin, failure and inabilities, and gain all of Christ. It is worth having him, there is no one else, and we cannot hang on to what we think we have got. We will loose it all if we try to hang on. Open the door, open your heart, Christian people. Do not hold back, or you will miss it all.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.”

Isaiah 43:18-21 NIV

We are set apart for Him alone. No one else can suffice for us. We are lost, lonely and hungry apart from Him. Get back on the altar today and find again the shepherd and Lord of you soul. Open you heart wide and let the Holy Spirit fill you with His good things, bringing you again back to Christ and knowing again that God is the Lord and you Heavenly Father loves you…

A new house

A new house

2 Corinthians 5:1-5 NIV

“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.”

The Christian knows what is coming in a way that the unbeliever doesn’t. The unbeliever does not accept the truth of what is ahead, as we are instructed in the Scriptures. Our bodies on this earth, will, not last, and we are all subject to the sting of death. Our bodies deteriorate and die, and our souls go our the place assigned for us. But one day, we will rise. The body will leave the ground and put on immortality. We shall, rise and go to with our Lord Jesus forever.

The mortal flesh will put on immortality. The transient will put on eternal significance. The groaning of the uncomfortable, will give way to pure joy. This is the inheritance of the saints of God. The Christian can look forward to a new body, their own body, made new and without fault. We will be satisfied with how we look and are.

Without this incorruptible body, we will be found “naked” with no covering to dignify our bare flesh. This is the inheritance of the ungodly. There is no provision for them, only punishment and disgrace. The choice of where we end up in eternity, is straightforward. We trust in Christ and get everything we could desire, or reject Him, and get all that we fear and hate. We choose wisely, because we desire Him, who we love, and want to be as He is. The human body of Christ, that He took on for our sake, is risen from the dead and now glorified, as we will soon be. This is our hope. This is our eternal home. Jesus Himself, is preparing a house, not made with human hands, for ever one of His people.

This house is in the heavens, though we don’t know what form it will take. He is preparing it for us and will keep it until, we enter in.

“However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands.”

Acts 7:48

God does not live in a brick and wooden house, as neither will we. It will be the perfect home for us, and fulfil all we need. Built personally by Christ, for His personal children and bride of eternity. When we think of what is ahead for us, it causes us to groan, that we are not yet there. But one day we shall be released from the doubt and sorrow of life, and enter into our inheritance. New glorified, immortal, everlasting bodies, and bespoke homes to live, which is mysterious to us now. One day it will all become clear and we will know, even as we are known.
