“When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them. Their dead bodies will be in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. From among the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations people will look at their dead bodies for three and a half days, and will not allow their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb. Those who dwell on the earth rejoice over them, and they will be glad. They will give gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.”

Revelation 11:7-10

The beast, who is the Antichrist is let loose from the Abyss to make war against the servants of the Lord. He does make war against the People of the Lord and overcomes them and kills them. There have been numerous bloody persecutions on Earth through the millennia and many Christians have died at the hand of false religion and evil secular forces. This suggest another and bloody uprising against the kingdom of God at the end times, or the infiltration of general lethargy not the population of earth, as they succumb to the spirit of the Antichrist. The city of Christ will seem to be destroyed and killed and will be defamed and ridiculed throughout the whole Earth. It will be disrespected and made a laughing stock by the people of the world and held up to ridicule and scorn. The world is likened to a great city, as Sodom or Egypt and is a place of sinfulness and depravity. This event happens after the death of Christ. History is full of such events as this.

The voice of the gospel will be silenced and there will be rejoicing that the offence of the message has been got rid of. Do we not have this today? Everything is preached in churches but not the gospel. Conversions are self-help mechanisms and new starts, that have no repentance and sorrow for sin at all. Many so-called conversions are just initiation into the rights of the group that calls itself “church” but is only a social class of people who happen to meet together. There is no references to sin in the lives of believer or unbeliever and all things carry on as before. The gospel seem to be silenced and the witness as are dead. 

After a set and pre-ordained time, the witnesses are resurrected and stand on their feet again with the breath of God in their nostrils. They are raised again, and again their voice is heard., Great fear falls on the peoples of earth as they are convicted of their great evil. The city of Sodom, the wickedness of human society, is brought to a state of seeming repentance and gives glory to God as a number of people are killed in the earthquake that accompanies the resurrection of the Witnesses. The servants of the Lord are honoured and advanced and this causes consternation and fear in the hearts of those who do not believe. 

God will always honour His people and the message of the gospel will find a way to be heard, so that those marked for God will believe. God is not willing that any should perish, so the Witnesses, those who spread the gospel message, as raised up by God to do His work. The Word is preached and the worldlings gnash their teeth, and reluctantly give glory to God. This is the state of the world at the end.

False religion and secularism has taken over the mindset of almost everyone. The Witnesses are few, but bold in the Lord their God. The gospel seems to be vanquished but it is not. God is in control and will not allow His people to be forever rejected and sidelined. He will get the glory in the end, even from the lips of wicked women and men.
